Heavy electric forestry truck

2024: First heavy electric forestry truck

In 2024, an electric truck designed to collect timber in the forest was put to work. Forestry transport represents about 20 percent of heavy road transport in Sweden, making electrification a key way to reduce emissions. This year, Scania advanced the decarbonisation of the forestry sector through the Swedish project TREE, to accelerate the electrification of heavy forest transport. Together with research institutes, haulage companies and other partners, Scania contributed electric trucks and expertise while testing commercial vehicles at demonstration sites. The project also addressed logistics, business models and charging solutions. The ambition was to enable the electrification of 50 percent of all new forestry trucks by 2030, which could reduce emissions by up to 260,000 tonnes of CO2 per year and support a broader transition to sustainable transport.
