Scania gas bus in Sidney

1994: First delivery of gas buses

Scania's first commercial delivery of vehicles with a gas powertrain occured in spring 1994. A large bus order of 300 city buses was landed few years earlier in Australia, including 250 Scania L113 CR buses to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). The State Transit Authority of New South Wales sought the benefits of urban vehicles with lower emissions and a more silent ride for their citizens. From local tests and research ten years earlier, Scania successfully converted their diesel engines for Liquid Propane Gas (LPG) together with the Stockholm city traffic authorities. The Australian buses were bodied by Ansair Orana and remained in various operations until 2019. Scania hereby re-introduced engines with spark plugs and carburettors, so called Otto engines, here designated as OSC11 G01 - delivering 250 hp.
