2024: First circular gearbox
Scania became the first truck manufacturer to integrate reused components on its main assembly line. As part of the iReGear project with the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm and the Scandinavian Transmission Service AB, a remanufactured gearbox was assembled and tested in the regular production flow, meeting all quality and performance standards. The process cuts material use by about 50 percent and reduces carbon emissions by roughly 45 percent compared with producing a new gearbox. This achievement marks a significant step toward circular manufacturing and demonstrates the potential for more resource‑efficient and sustainable vehicle production.
