1968: New factory in Luleå

A key philosophy within Scania-Vabis was to manufacture all vital components inhouse. In spite of a major recession on the Swedish market the management progressed with the expansion plans decided earlier. A press shop was a backward integration initiative, aiming to secure future quality and availability. Where to establish the manufacturing of vehicle frame parts became clear when Swedish government dictated a regional policy. It became the northmost production unit in the Scania-Vabis family and almost immediately expanded to also produce axle parts. Today it serves all final vehicle assembly lines in Scania’s European system with rear axle bridges, side members and other frame parts.
