1951: First turbocharged diesel engine
Scania-Vabis is the first diesel engines maker in the world to apply turbo technology in serial production. Customers are offered a super-charged version of the 11.3-litre inline D810 engine for industrial and marine use. From the outset, the 8-cylinder direct-injection engine range was designed for turbocharging. Fitted with a Brown-Boveri super charging device the effect increased from 180 to 205 hp. Close to 450 engines were fitted to railcars in Sweden and some were exported to Denmark and Liberia.
