1957: Subsidiary in Brazil
In search of over-seas export opportunities, several major Swedish companies went to Brazil. Like Ericsson, SKF, Atlas Copco, ASEA, Electrolux, Alfa-Laval, Sandvik and others, Scania-Vabis set its sights on South America as a growth region with huge potential and started production in Brazil in 1957. This was a way to overcome import restrictions, which threaten to exclude the company from what is now the company’s largest export market.
