Initiatives and commitments
Driving the shift is not something we can do on our own. Scania is working with others across industry, academia and government as well as taking ambitious actions on our own. Here are some of the initiatives that we have taken to speed up the shift to sustainable transport.

Towards a more circular production in Scania Oskarshamn
Great achievements towards a more circular production are made at Scania’s cab factory In Oskarshamn, Sweden, since 2019. The production is fossil free since 2020, more material is recycled, and the energy consumption has decreased with several thousand MWh. -

Scania takes part in hydrogen project
Scania is currently working on a project to develop an initial 20 fuel cell electric trucks with Cummins Inc, that will run on green hydrogen in HyTrucks project. -

Scania’s commitment to electrification – our initiatives so far
Scania is driving the transition to zero emission vehicles. We are series-producing fully electric vehicles and actively testing heavier duty electric trucks in customer operations. This transformation is being enabled by rapid improvements in battery technology, and electric trucks will soon have the range necessary for widespread use in long-haul applications. -

Scania’s electrification roadmap
Scania is ready for the transition to zero emission vehicles. We have a plan, an electrification roadmap that will guide us and ensure we have a new electric product available annually. We already have fully electric trucks and buses available that can manage up to 250 km per charge and we can expect up to 500 km range in 4-5 years from now. -

Lidl Italia gets its first electric truck
The innovative, emission-free Scania Battery-Electric Vehicle operates from the Lidl logistics centre in Arcole near Verona, and is being used to supply the company’s supermarkets in the north-east of Italy. -

As a part of the cross-industry CEO Alliance, Scania backs EU plan to cut carbon emissions by 55% by 2030
The CEO Alliance with 12 business leaders recently met in Paris to discuss ways to further support the EU Green Deal. The group believes that fighting climate change will require a collective effort by all EU member states and collaboration between the public sector and industry. A strong carbon pricing signal on the European level is regarded as a key to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and cutting greenhouse gas emissions to 55 percent of 1990 levels by 2030. -

Scania collaborates with Amazon Web Services on green-IT initiative
In an effort to become a leader in sustainable IT, Scania will collaborate with Amazon Web Services (AWS) on a year-long project beginning in June 2021. The project aims to reduce its IT carbon footprint and build sustainability IT solutions.
