Scania electrifies airport ground support

13 FEBRUARY 2026

Scania and Austrian brand Dynell begins a partnership to accelerate the electrification of airport ground support equipment, replacing conventional diesel-powered solutions with efficient electric alternatives.

Scania will become a strategic supplier of industrial battery systems to Dynell. Our Core 800 and 700 battery systems will be integrated into Dynell’s DEM 045–090 electric ground power units, delivering reliable mobile aircraft power with up to 90 kVA output.

Expanding electrification beyond on-road transport

The partnership marks an important step in Scania’s strategy to broaden the application of its electrified solutions beyond trucks and buses. By leveraging its modular battery technology and industrial expertise, Scania strengthens its position in off-highway and industrial segments where electrification is accelerating.

Scania’s industrial battery systems are designed and manufactured in Europe and offer high energy density across a range of applications from 21 to 624 kWh. Built for demanding environments, the systems feature an integrated battery management system (BMS), advanced thermal management and multilayer safety architecture, ensuring reliability, safety and long service life.

Supports the transition to low-emission airports

The fully electric DEM 045–090 unit is a mobile power supply for aircraft while parked, and supports a wide range of airport operations. As airports worldwide work to reduce emissions and noise levels, scalable battery-powered ground support equipment plays an increasingly important role in enabling more sustainable aviation infrastructure.

The collaboration between Scania and Dynell began in 2022. Dynell has already deployed hundreds of units powered by Scania Core battery systems and expects to have around 500 units in service by 2026. The continued expansion reflects growing global demand for zero-emission ground support solutions.

“The partnership with Dynell is a strong validation of both our technology and our ability to deliver at scale. Integrating hundreds of battery systems into demanding airport environments demonstrates how Scania’s modular electrification platform can create value beyond the traditional transport sector. This is fully aligned with our strategy to support the transition towards electrified low-emission solutions for industrial and off-highway applications,” says Elin Åkerström, CEO of Scania Industrial Batteries.

“For Dynell, this collaboration represents more than a technology partnership. It forms a cornerstone of our long-term vision to help shape the next generation of airport infrastructure – quieter, cleaner and digitally enabled. By combining Dynell’s application expertise with Scania’s proven battery technology, we are demonstrating how strong partnerships can accelerate the transformation of critical aviation systems,” says Michael Brandstötter, Head of Marketing & Sales at Dynell.

Through this partnership, Scania continues to expand its electrification footprint, enabling customers to reduce emissions, strengthen operational resilience and accelerate the transition towards sustainable airport operations worldwide.
