Signing Ceremony of the Letter of Intent Agreement for Biogas Supply

Scania co-hosted the Low Carbon Sustainable Development Innovation Conference in Rugao, China

On October 17th the 2nd edition of Low Carbon Sustainable Development Innovation Conference was held in Rugao. The conference is a joint event hosted by Scania, Rugao innovation and technology park and IVL, Swedish research institute for water and air.

2024 Low Carbon Sustainable Development Innovation Conference

Conference had an in-depth discussion on how to achieve quality development in economy and society via tech innovation, industry upgrades and policy incentives, aiming to achieve carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. Core topics of the meeting are on low-carbon edging tech exploration, green industry chain transformation and upgrade etc.

 

The conference was moderated by Head of TRATON China office, Mats Harbon. We also had the honour to have Per Augustsson, Swedish Ambassador to China; He Yijun, Party Secretary of Rugao and Secretary of RETDZ Party Working Committee and many experts and scholars of the industry from both China and Sweden to give interesting speeches and presentations.

Roundtable Forum

Our Scania China President Ruthger De Vries gave a very inspiring speech with the topic of why our company need to take responsibility and decarbonize and he also participated in the panel discussion moderated by Jennie Cato, SVP, Scania Global head of Public Affairs and Partnership that was also invited to the conference along with a team from our headquarter in Sweden. Jennie asked the panel questions like, what is the driving force to decarbonize, How to decarbonize and keep profit and lastly asked for the key take aways from the conference to which Ruthger answered “we has seen today that the technology is ready and we know what to do, now let’s do it” and Osten Ekengren from IVL answered “We have an issue now that we need to solve for the sake of our children and grand children we need to decarbonize”.

 

Another highlight from the conference was the signing ceremony of a letter of intention between Scania and Gaokai group where Gaokai group aim to start biogas production in Rugao and Scania aim to buy the volume of biogas produced. This LOI is a very important step towards making our Rugao site carbon neutral.

 

In the conference invited colleagues from all departments at SAS participated to make sure the messages from the conference is spread as inspiration to the whole SAS organization.

 

Previous during the day the Swedish ambassador to China and our headquarter colleagues made a site visit where they got excellent guiding from production colleagues.
