Scania Group China sets sail: deepening local roots, driving the future
3 February 2026, Beijing
With a complete set-up in China, geared towards delivering transport efficiency, reliability and sustainability for optimised solutions at China speed, Scania has taken the step to unify all its China operations under one umbrella with high local autonomy and close global alignment– Scania Group China.
Camilla Dewoon, appointed Executive Vice President of Scania Group and Head of Scania Group China as of 1 January, outlined the company's strategic direction and reinforced its commitment to the local market at today's Scania Group China Media Gathering 2026. This follows significant milestones in Scania's local journey: the inauguration of its global industrial hub in Rugao in October 2025, delivery of premium Scania trucks, and the debut of the NEXT ERA product line.
Against this backdrop, Dewoon described the company’s current phase as embodying the long-term commitment of "In China, with China", to provide optimised solutions for the transformation of the Chinese transport and truck market, aligning with the broader development goals of China's 15th Five-Year Plan. She emphasised China's strategic role not just as the world's largest commercial vehicle market, but as a crucial hub for global innovation and growth for Scania and the TRATON GROUP. The strategy involves actively integrating unique Chinese advancements in areas like electrification and intelligent connectivity into global modular system, while building a resilient local supply chain to strengthen the overall global network.
One unified organisation for efficient operations
To execute this strategic vision, Scania Group China implemented a new organisational structure and governance model effective January 1, 2026. Under Dewoon's leadership, the company's operations in China have been integrated into a unified and efficient system covering Scania R&D, Scania procurement, Scania production, Scania and NEXT ERA commercial operations, and all supporting functions. This aims to operationalize the goal of “optimising local decision-making while ensuring global alignment", combining Scania's global excellence standards with the agile response Chinese market requires.
Dual offering for comprehensive market coverage
In response to the diverse and multi-layered customer demands in China, Scania is addressing the market through a complementary dual offering strategy. It continues to provide the global standard premium Scania, which offers customised tractor and chassis to meet customers requiring the higher performance and specialised applications. On the other hand, NEXT ERA tractor range is developed with deep insights into the Chinese market. Specifically designed for long-haul transport volume segment, it brings outstanding performance in uptime, fuel efficiency and reliability to a broader customer base. Dewoon emphasised that these two commercial offerings are complementary, together forming Scania Group China's complete coverage in China from premium to long haulage volume market, as well as in the rigid and special purpose vehicle segments. They represent the core foundation for the company's transformation from a traditional vehicle seller to a partner providing integrated transport solutions.
Focus on value creation for a sustainable future
Looking ahead, Dewoon stated that as a localised enterprise, Scania Group China's core mission is to continuously create exceptional value for customers. The company's primary tasks include closely collaborating with dealer partners to provide tailor-made solutions for target customers and applications; ensuring the global industrial hub in Rugao achieves state-of-the-art production ramp-up; and continuously optimising strategic cooperation with suppliers and partners.
Concurrently, Scania will focus on transforming deep insights and successful experiences accumulated in the Chinese market into "China Wisdom" within the organisation and fully leverage digitalisation and automation technologies to comprehensively enhance operational effectiveness. Through these initiatives, Scania is committed to working together with Chinese partners and customers to jointly promote the transformation, upgrading, and sustainable development of the logistics industry, thereby fulfilling its long-term commitment to the Chinese market.
