NEXT ERA Product Debut: Redefining Value for China's Long-Haul Transport

November 24 2025,Rugao

Scania and the TRATON GROUP today unveiled NEXT ERA, an ‘In China, with China’ tractor product range, for the world’s largest truck market. Based on the TRATON Modular System principles, and with deep knowledge of the market, NEXT ERA is specifically designed to redefine value in China's competitive long haul and volume segment. The range will be produced at the Scania Rugao Industrial Hub and marketed through a dedicated sales organisation—NEXT ERA Commercial—independent of the group's existing channels in China.

The event marked the kickoff of the launch journey, which extends into Q1 2026. Deliveries will start next March.

Engineered at China Speed for China’s demands

NEXT ERA is not just made in China - it is created in China. Developed at China speed by our local R&D team, it addresses specific needs of Chinese long-haul operators through optimised fuel performance, well tested reliability, and driver-centric cab work environment, which also features a digital cockpit and intelligent driving systems, deeply integrated with the local digital ecosystem to enhance efficiency, safety, and ease of operation.

At the heart of the driveline lies the TD13 engine – based on TRATON's Common Based Engine (CBE) architecture – delivering up to 500 hp and 2550 Nm. Paired with state-of-the-art gearbox and Predictive Cruise Control, it ensures optimised total cost of ownership. The planned product lineup includes 6×4, 6×2, and 4×2 tractors for express, cold chain, and general freight applications.

"The development of NEXT ERA required deep immersion in China's transport ecosystem," shared Sonia Ederstål, Vice President of Scania Industrial Operations Asia & Head of Scania R&D Asia. "Through customer clinics, real-world route testing in China and overseas, and continuous dialogue with dealers and fleet owners, we've embedded the Customer First principle throughout the product."

A high-value, easy-to-buy and easy-to-use workhorse

NEXT ERA Commercial is establishing an exclusive NEXT ERA sales and service network, starting with about 80 outlets and 150 service vehicles, designed for high flexibility to adapt to, and expand with customer demands.

Volker Hillmann, President and Managing Director of NEXT ERA Commercial, stated: "With a laser focus on the performance of both the product and the service set up, we are able to maximize value creation in the whole value chain. Our dedicated network ensures convenient, professional end-to-end support and embeds superior Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) into every customer touchpoint. During today’s event preauthorized NEXT ERA dealers demonstrated their confidence by immediately reserving all of the 1000 launch edition trucks, and signed related contracts."

Camilla Dewoon, Executive Vice President Scania Group and newly appointed Head of Scania Group China, emphasised: "This additional commercial offering adds to the group’s commitment to sustainable and high quality growth to China. Through this standardised product and service portfolio, NEXT ERA demonstrates new ways to support Chinese customers' business growth and enforces Scania and the TRATON GROUP’s long-term presence in China."
