Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
SDG 8 – Decent work and economic growth
The transport industry is an enabler for productivity, job creation and economic growth globally. However, the promotion of decent work along the value chains remains a challenge.
Being present all over the world, Scania participates in driving improvements in the area of responsible business. To further strengthen our contributions to good employment opportunities and decent work, Scania is intensifying the partnership and dialogue with our employee representatives in the world.
As a big transport buyer we also need to act responsibly and secure that the journeys in our value chain are performed according to social and ethical acceptable forms. Scania’s logistics department is committed to high ethical principles and has developed tough social requirements for our transport flows.
Starting 2018 Scania introduced a new demand specification for fair transport. Our fair transport audit covers driver working conditions, collective agreements, salaries and allowances, as well as security and environmental aspects. Scania has joined forces with other leading transport buyers and suppliers to release the Truck Transport Social Guidelines. The guidelines aim to improve conditions for truck drivers by establishing industry standards in key areas such as driving and rest times, pay and health and safety.
We are also committed to supporting the Global Deal in which the partnership also includes governments and organisations in the area. The aim of global deal is to work towards the achievement of the Agenda 2030 with a focus on decent work and reduced inequalities.
