Decarbonisation at Scania
The transport sector is a significant contributor of global greenhouse gas emissions. As a major part of the problem, it is vital that our industry is part of the solution. To manage our climate impact and mitigate risk, we are committed to reducing emissions throughout our entire value chain and across all relevant scopes.
This means cutting carbon emissions not only from our own operations, but from the vehicles when they are in use by our customers as well as the emissions from the supply chain. We have set clear goals for carbon reduction and defined the areas we need to prioritise to achieve them.
Scania takes a well-to-wheel approach to measuring carbon emissions from the vehicles in use. This takes into account carbon impacts across the value chain, starting with the production and distribution of fuel or electricity, all the way up to the tailpipe emissions from the vehicles while they are in use.
Our carbon reduction targets cover emissions from our operations (scope 1 and 2) and emissions from the use of our products (scope 3). We moreover have industry-leading decarbonisation ambitions for our supply chain.
These targets and ambitions are part of our corporate targets, and guide our business decisions across business areas, from product development to production and sales priorities. Achieving these targets will require coordinated action across our entire organisation, as well as close collaboration with our customers and other partners across the transport ecosystem.
Towards fossil-free transport
Our decarbonisation journey aims to contribute to the Paris Agreement objective by making Scania and the wider transport industry fossil-free by 2050, through reducing emissions from vehicles in use, our operations and our supply chain.
Decarbonisation targets
Cutting carbon emissions at every stage of our value chain is a key strategic priority for Scania. We have a set of specific decarbonisation targets, setting clear goals and expectations for reducing our value chain emissions.
