Scania new bus and coach powertrain generation
Next stop: Sustainability
With our new bus and coach powertrain platform, we have just enabled a huge leap in sustainability and profitability in people transport. The powertrain platform is built on components and engineering from Scania’s award-winning SUPER powertrain for trucks – but adapted for buses and coaches, and with the option for a plug-in hybrid configuration. Altogether, this results in cost-efficient sustainable solutions for a wide variety of needs in people transport operations.
Meet the new 11-litre
We're now extending our engine range with an additional engine size to enable an even better fit-for-purpose choice for Scania based buses and coaches.
- More powerful and efficient than our 9-litre
Perfect for operations where the 9-litre might feel limiting, but a 13-litre may be more than needed, such as intercity and regional transports, or contexts with a somewhat challenging topography. All with a lower fuel consumption despite having more power and a comparatively larger displacement.
- Smaller and lighter than our 13-litre
In operations where higher 13-litre power options are not needed, the 11-litre can be a better choice with sufficient power, coupled with reduced weight and size to enable added passenger capacity or luggage space. And with efficiency figures similar to those of the 13-litre Super, the savings from the preceding 13-litre are massive.
One powertrain platform - multiple choices
Super 13-litre engine - efficient, reliable and powerful
Fuel efficiency, streamlined maintenance and long service life are all key for profitable operations with minimised emissions. With a 13-litre engine improved in almost every way, a new gearbox, new brake system options and axle choices – several key operational aspects have been made better.
A great choice to lower cost and emissions in challenging intercity and long-distance operations.

Super 11-litre engine - efficient, reliable and versatile
Builds on the engineering achievements of the 13-litre engine, and is designed with alternative technologies and engineering solutions, such as: Variable Valve Braking using cam phaser technology to maximise efficiency, while enabling great gear-shifting and excellent braking power.
A solid option for many urban and intercity operations with high demands.

Calculated in Vecto declaration mode and compared to their predecessors, the 13-litre Super powertrain delivers representative fuel savings of 8%, while the equivalent figure for the 11-litre is 10%, with various factors influencing actual outcome.
13-litre plug-in hybrid (PHEV) performance
Sustainability and performance are far from opposites. All the range of a conventional powertrain, but with further improved fuel efficiency, power and torque. And with the ability to run in fully electric mode, ensuring zero emission zone compliance and improving both comfort and driveability.
An excellent solution for highly efficient long-distance travelling with zero emission zone compliance and premium comfort.

The fuel efficiency and range numbers stated, representing a typical coach operation, are dependent on operation, route, driving style, charging strategy and other aspects.
The Scania SUPER
– with electric capabilities
Our new powertrain platform is based on the award-winning Scania Super truck powertrain, bringing exceptional efficiency, durability, and serviceability. The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) based on the 13-litre engine enhances the Super powertrain using electric components, adding even higher efficiency and performance, premium comfort, and full operational flexibility.
