Equipment, vehicles and vessels must be reliable – Scania engines and components will rise to the challenge.
Scania electric machine wins 2026 Top New Products award
4 SEPTEMBER 2026
Scania’s EM 505A industrial electric machine has been recognised in OEM Off-Highway’s 2026 Top New Products awards, winning in the Drivetrains category. The award highlights innovation in technologies shaping the future of on- and off-road equipment.
The award-winning EM 505A is Scania’s industrial electric machine, developed in-house as part of a complete electrified power solution. With 230 kW of continuous power, it can be used in both fully electric and hybrid applications, giving equipment manufacturers greater flexibility when developing lower-emission solutions.
Flexible power for electric and hybrid equipment
A key benefit is its versatility. An integrated clutch allows the electric machine to operate as part of a hybrid or fully electric solution, or as a generator. This flexibility can make the transition towards full electrification more seamless, while hybrid operation provides additional power and extended range when needed. In electric mode, lower noise levels also make the solution well suited to urban environments and can contribute to a better working environment for operators.
One supplier for complete electrified power solutions
Customers also benefit from Scania’s role as a single system supplier. Instead of sourcing components from multiple vendors, equipment manufacturers can work with one supplier for the complete power system, including the electric machine, inverter, control system, batteries, combustion engine and other electrification components. A key enabler is the common power control unit, which coordinates these components through an integrated control strategy, reducing complexity and creating clearer responsibility for integration, validation, service and support.
“This award is a meaningful acknowledgement of the work our teams have put into developing solutions that support the transition towards more sustainable operations,” says Björn Winblad, Director of e-Mobility Solutions. “It is encouraging to see the EM 505A recognised by the industry, but above all, we are pleased to be helping our customers take the next step in their electrification journeys.”
The annual OEM Off-Highway Top New Products awards highlight new technologies and innovations for on- and off-road equipment, with winners selected across categories including drivetrains, electrification, engines, and engineering.
OEM Off-Highway is a leading industry publication for engineers and product development teams in the on- and off-road equipment sector, covering technology developments, engineering innovation, and new products.
The EM 505A demonstrates how technology developed within Scania can be applied beyond road transport, helping customers take steps towards electrification in demanding industrial environments.
