How Paixão turned a simple observation into real change at Scania

27 AUGUST 2026

Sometimes improvement starts with noticing something small. At Scania Brasil, assembly technician Adriano Ferreira, known as Paixão, turned a routine observation into a practical improvement that saves resources every day.

A simple observation with real impact

After nine years at Scania, the assembly technician noticed that oil was being wasted in the system used to supply fluid to the steering boxes of chassis in production. Each time an oil drum was replaced, some oil remained inside and was discarded.

“Every time I changed the drum, I saw that there was still oil left, and that bothered me. One day, I asked the team responsible for removing the drums and found out that the remaining oil was not reused,” he recalls.

Together with the leadership and engineering teams, Paixão helped test a simple, cost-free solution: positioning the drum at a better angle with a wedge and adjusting the sensor that triggered the system’s supply. The result was immediate. Around 30 liters of oil that had previously been left unused every two days could now be reused in production.

Today, the improvement generates savings of approximately R$8,000 per month, or R$96,000 per year.

“It was a simple idea, but it brought a very positive result at no cost to the company,” says Paixão.

The Scania Way in practice

For him, the motivation came from a lesson he learned at home: “My mother always says: if you have the chance to do good, do it. Do it without expecting anything in return, no matter who it is for. When I realised there was an opportunity for improvement, I decided to act.”

His initiative was highlighted at the latest quarterly factory meeting and mentioned by Suzana Martin, VP of Engines, as an example of behavior aligned with Scania’s culture of continuous improvement.

Paixão’s story shows how career development at Scania is also built through curiosity, ownership and the courage to improve what is already part of everyday work.
