Real change depends on innovation. We are accelerating the shift by investing in disruptive business ideas, partnering with pioneering companies and developing the competencies we need to unlock future customer value and make the future of transport a reality.
The transport system is transforming at unparalleled scale and speed. At Scania, we are driving innovation and growth in four ways, in addition to our core research and development activities:
Build: Create new businesses that complement our core.
Buy: Acquire companies to access new technologies, talent and markets.
Partner: Collaborate with key players to tackle challenges we cannot solve alone.
Invest: Invest in technologies that ensure Scania’s long-term resilience.
As set out by our strategic direction, we are exploring and investing in new ideas, technologies and business models beyond our current core. We focus on three key areas.
Energy and infrastructure
A sustainable, electrified transport system requires more than vehicles – it requires energy and infrastructure that delivers superior uptime and energy at the right cost. At Scania, we are building that system. We develop, deploy and operate solutions across the value chain.
Example
Through Erinion, we are rolling out dedicated charging solutions at customers’ depots and destinations, enabling electric transport to scale where it is actually used.
Asset management and circularity
A sustainable transport system requires more than low emissions — it requires smarter use of vehicles, materials and resources across their entire life cycle. At Scania, we are reshaping how fleets are managed to maximise value, minimise waste and unlock new business opportunities through circularity. Decarbonisation and circular business are core to our strategy, and we are building new business in parallel with driving transformative change.
Example
Through our joint venture JUNA, we are enabling pay-per-use transport operations, allowing customers to access transport where and when it is needed. By retaining lifelong ownership of vehicles, JUNA maximises vehicle utilisation and value while closing the loop on materials and components.
Autonomous and supply chain
Working closely with our customers, we are developing autonomous solutions that improve efficiency and safety in real operations. Together, we test, refine and scale these technologies to ensure they deliver value in everyday transport flows. Autonomous solutions will play an increasingly important role in shaping a sustainable and competitive transport ecosystem.
Example
Set up by Scania, LOTS Group transforms and optimises customer logistics. By harnessing data from our connected trucks and other sources, the company helps customers find new routes, reduce waste and dramatically improve efficiency.
