“We’ve only scratched the surface of AI’s potential”
8 SEPTEMBER 2025
Simon Edström has one foot in the world of engineering and the other in cutting-edge AI development. With a background in aerospace engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology, he has an important part to play in TRATON’s transformation from hardware-focused manufacturing to software-driven innovation.
Today, Simon works as a Product Owner and Fullstack Developer in TRATON’s AI Enablement team. He describes his role as standing at the boundary between the AI team and the wider organisation.
“I listen to customers and stakeholders, gather their needs and challenges, and translate them into clear directions for the team,” he explains. “Because we all code, we understand both the opportunities and the limitations – and that makes our solutions stronger.”
For Simon, teamwork is at the heart of everything.
“We avoid silos at all costs. Working closely together makes us better as a team, gives us better results, and makes work much more enjoyable,” he says. Transparency, flexibility, and shared responsibility are key principles in the group.
AI can make a difference - in the right place
What makes Simon’s role unique is that he combines product ownership with hands-on technical expertise.
“AI offers enormous opportunities, but you also need to understand where and how it actually creates value. Not every challenge requires AI – but when it does, it can truly make a difference,” he explains.
Looking ahead, Simon is driven by the bigger picture.
“We’ve only scratched the surface of what’s possible. At TRATON, where people are always at the centre, AI can have a massive impact on customers, employees, and the entire value chain. We want to focus on agentic workflows and bring AI to nearly all our systems. We are entering a new AI revolution. With the right mindset, we can build smarter ways of working and shape a truly data-driven future.”
