GRASSMEN plough on with Scania Financial Services

13th June 2023

With a 12 month hire purchase agreement facilitated by Scania Financial Services, GRASSMEN – one of the agricultural world’s highest profile brands – has taken delivery of a Scania 660S tag-axle heavy haulage prime mover.  Supplied by Road Trucks Limited, Larne, the truck recently became available at short notice.  While GRASSMEN normally purchases its equipment outright, the need to move at speed in order to secure this particular vehicle necessitated financial support.

“While we were planning to purchase a new truck relatively soon, we didn’t have the budget in place when the 660S came onto the market,” comments GRASSMEN owner Gareth Gault.  “However, when I saw its spec, I knew instantly this was the truck for us.  The problem was, we had to act quickly, not just to obtain the truck but also to  benefit from government incentives which expire in April.  I ran the numbers and basically the benefits we could achieve by taking out finance outweighed the costs.

“Vincent Taggart, our contact at Road Trucks, put me onto Scania Financial Services whose Account Executive Derek Shute made it all very easy.  There was no pain, just a couple of emails and it was all sorted.  They also beat everyone on price, so it was a win-win all round.”

Owned by Ballymena, Northern Ireland-based Moover Limited, the GRASSMEN brand has forged a reputation far and wide.  Much of this awareness has been created through the company’s social media activities, where some of its professionally-produced videos have attracted in excess of ten million views on its YouTube channel alone.

While the business focuses on its extensive range of merchandising as its primary source of income, it is also active in the movement and transportation of agricultural equipment, hence its needs for trucks.

“GRASSMEN brings together my love of agriculture and lorries,” says Gareth, who is universally known throughout the industry as ‘Donkey’.  “So we attend agricultural shows and events throughout the island of Ireland and the UK – from the Royal Cornwall Show to the Royal Highland Show, you’ll find GRASSMEN everywhere!  We own a number of pieces of agricultural equipment of our own, but we also transport manufacturers’ products to events.  Our trucks – we now have three Scanias – play an important role here, not just carrying the exhibits but also in terms of the image they portray.  I’m really pleased we now have a new 660S and I’d like to say a big thank you to Road Trucks and Scania Financial Services.”
