The right match for Scania

7 OCTOBER 2024

“I’m optimistic about the future. With what I encounter in my line of work I can truly say we are on the path toward something good. And I’m happy to be a part of it.”

Sofia Edberg is Venture Lead, a hands-on role shaping the future of the transport industry by building new businesses that complement Scania’s current range of products and services. She has had several roles at Scania. She began with the Scania Internship Production programme in 2014 and later did her thesis in the engine manufacturing department. Her professional career continued as a trainee, followed by several managerial roles in production and R&D before taking on her current role of leading new business ventures.

Challenge the industry

“Venture building is not just about finding the most exciting initiatives out there; we need to find the right match for us.” Scania is looking for business ideas that expand our playing field while driving the shift towards a sustainable transport system, keeping the customer top of mind. “We always strive to challenge the status quo of the industry. My team and I are working on initiatives within electrification. I wish I could tell you all about them, but we are still in an exploratory phase!”

Sofia says the proudest moment in her Scania career so far happened a few years back when she was a group manager within R&D. The team struggled with the results and their sense of well-being but turned it around. “We spent a lot of time getting to know each other and talking about how we want to work together. Every second we put into team-building and work processes was well spent. Within eighteen months this team was a well-oiled machine, delivering great results. I’ve never been prouder than when I felt I wasn’t needed anymore as the team thrived on their own!” she says.

Sofia has learned a lot since she first started at Scania. “Not just about trucks and our industrial system. The greatest lessons have been about people, the importance of good leadership and perhaps most importantly the power of committing to making a difference.”
