Southdown Buses selects Scania-ADL double-deckers
Southdown Buses, the independent bus operator running services in East Surrey and into Kent and Sussex, has opted for two Scania N 250 UD4x2 bus chassis equipped with ADL E400 MMC double deck bodywork.
Featuring Scania's 250 horsepower 9.3-litre, Euro 6 DC09 engine and ZF EcoLife six-speed automatic gearboxes, the new vehicles are now in service.
Commenting on the order, Southdown Buses Managing Director Steve Wallis says, "Based on the performance of our current Scania Euro 5 ADL E400 classic buses, the decision to invest in new Scania buses was an easy move for Southdown. Having tried and tested the Scania N 250 UD demonstrator last year we know the chassis handles well and performs superbly in terms of fuel economy, reliability and ease of maintenance, and is popular with our drivers, engineers and passengers alike. Combined with ADL’s E400 MMC body it is adaptable for every road condition but light enough to make a difference – and tough enough to deal with all wear and tear."
The bodywork fitted to both vehicles is 10.9-metre overall length Alexander Dennis E400 MMC Low Height, with a seating capacity of 78. The seats fitted are Lazzerini Pratico low back, and onboard facilities include USB charging points.
