The Scania electric truck that’s on top of the world

An electric truck in the High Arctic and a second life for truck batteries. Here are some surprising facts about e-mobility.

Did you know?

The 19-tonne Scania truck distributes parcels, mail and freight under Arctic conditions in Longyearbyen municipality for the Norwegian postal service. Located on 78 degrees latitude, Longyearbyen on Svalbard is one of the world’s northernmost inhabited areas.

Batteries used in electric trucks do have a long service life, but even after reaching end-of-life in the vehicle, they can still create value and be used for other purposes.

For example, stacks of used batteries from heavy transport vehicles can be repurposed to balance electrical grids, especially as more renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power are introduced.

Electric solutions continue to grow, making up an ever-greater portion of our portfolio, as they become available for an even wider range of applications. By 2030, half of the company’s annual sales volume will come from electric solutions.
