War child

The international aid organisation War Child has projects that offer education and psychological support to children of war, to help them process their traumatic experiences, rebuild their self-esteem and increase their trust in other people.

Scania and War Child have together developed a mentorship programme based on War Child’s methods that gives mentor training to Scania employees and pairs them with newly arrived youth in the municipality of Södertälje, Sweden.

Södertälje, an industrial city 30 kilometres southwest of Stockholm is one of the municipalities in Sweden which has received the most refugees in recent years.

The Scania and War Child cooperation is unique

It’s the first time that War Child has worked with a company that encourages and provides the opportunity for its employees to support young people during working hours. Group and individual meetings are organised in such a way that many activities are offered on site at Scania during working hours for the company’s employees.

The initiative hopes to create contact areas between newly arrived young people and employees at Scania to give young people important adult contacts, broadened perspectives and an entrance to Swedish society and employment.
