Scania experience for brave Finn
Six-year-old Finn Martin was treated to a ride in a Scania organised by the staff at Scania Shepton Mallet, getting him up close to the vehicles he loves so much.
Scania-mad Finn was unfortunately diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of three and attends hospital regularly for chemotherapy.
Debbie Martin, Finn’s mum, contacted the Scania’s Customer Contact Centre through web chat and told them all about how Finn counts Scania’s on the road on his way to hospital to pass the time and take his mind off hospital visits.
When the team at Finn’s local depot found out about his passion, they were keen to invite him down to give him a real taste of Scania action.
Organised as a surprise for Finn, he and his family visited the depot where they were presented with goody bags packed with clothing, model trucks and Scania merchandise. Finn and his dad were taken out by Stuart Harvey for a long road test that he could see what it was like inside and were treated to a guided tour around the site.
“The trip made Finn’s year, he absolutely loved it. The lorries he was given have been everywhere with him since and he insisted on wearing his Scania jacket on a sponsored charity walk – despite it being far too warm to need a jacket…”, Debbie said.
The Martin family will be given a family ticket for the Wessex Truck Show (11-12 August) at Yeovil Showground.
Among the vehicles that Finn will see at the show, will be the Paul Smart Transport ‘Reversing for Cancer’ livered vehicle. To celebrate 25 years in business, Paul Smart Transport is aiming to raise at least £250,000 for Cancer Research UK in 2018. They have an action-packed year of events where they will showcase a brand-new Scania XT G450 8x4 tipper truck.
Gary Power, Regional Aftersales Director, said: “It was a real pleasure to invite Finn and his family to the depot and meet such an inspirational youngster. We wanted to make him one of the team and let him get up close and personal to the vehicles he loves to count on the road. We hope his family have a fantastic time at the truck show and we look forward to seeing them there. A huge thanks to all of the staff here at Shepton Mallet for making it such a great experience for him.”
