Scania helps Rabat modernising its urban transport system

Morocco’s capital Rabat is a rapidly developing city of 1.8 million people and counting, and its public transport comprises 61 lines serving 100 million passengers a year. To keep up with the capital’s growth, the municipal authority is thoroughly modernising its urban transport system.
New vehicles, technological improvements and a new fare scheme that integrates with the Rabat tramway are being brought in. Scania is playing a key supporting role, with the delivery of 248 Euro 5 K250 low-entry buses, which have been built jointly by Scania and its Chinese partner Higer.

The buses can take 85 passengers, of which 33 are seated, and are being operated by the Spanish company ALSA, in partnership with the Moroccan operator CityBus.
“Scania has provided Rabat with modern and well-equipped buses, that are reliable enough for long-term operations,“ says Monssif Abied, Managing Director at Scania Maroc.
Scania – a major supplier to the Moroccan bus market
As Abied points out, Scania is already a major supplier to the Moroccan bus market. All the buses for ALSA’s operations in the cities of Agadir, Marrakesh and Tangier were supplied by Scania. With such a successful business partnership, it was an easy decision for ALSA to choose Scania in Rabat.
