Swedish Prime Minister visits Scania factory in Iran

After attending the signing of an agreement on the delivery of 1,350 buses for public transport in Iran, Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven visited Scania’s assembly plant for trucks in Caspian Industrial Area in Qazvin, 100 kilometres west of Tehran.
“It gives us great pleasure to demonstrate the high level of skills and knowledge among our staff in assembling Scania’s state-of-the-art trucks,” Mehrzad Ferdows, CEO of Scania’s Iranian partner and distributor Mammut Group, said when welcoming the Swedish Prime Minister.
Together with Mr. Ferdows and Scania’s President and CEO Henrik Henriksson, Stefan Löfven toured the facilities and took time to meet local employees and was introduced to how they work with Scania’s global standards to build products. The local apprenticeship system was one of the topics of discussion during the guided tour.
Mammut, which has been Scania’s truck partner and distributor since 2008, assembles, sells and services Scania trucks from CKD (Complete Knocked Down) parts from Sweden or Brazil. Mammut currently employs 520 people in their Scania operations.
Solutions for lower emissions
Among the other issues discussed during the visit to the truck factory was how Scania helps tackle air pollution in Iran. In cooperation with Iranian authorities, Scania has developed solutions that ensure that local emissions are kept to a minimum with the current fuel quality. The Scania trucks are equipped with engine technology that offers the lowest emissions levels in the country.
“Iran continues to be a major market for Scania and we look forward to further success in developing sustainable transport solutions together with our Iranian partners,” Henrik Henriksson said.
