Scania gas trucks make clean and silent deliveries in Paris

In search of alternatives to diesel for deliveries to its 360 convenience stores in the Paris metropolitan area, Franprix is operating a Scania P 340 gas truck.
“Franprix is heavily engaged in sustainable development,” explains Franprix’s Logistics Director Christian Bens. “We plan to replace old vehicles in our fleet with Scania gas trucks. Within our company, the gas solution is widely recognised as reliable and well-suited for our short-distance deliveries.”
Nearly all shops are located in the Paris metropolitan area with limited storage space. Since full pallets cannot be delivered, they rely on frequent deliveries from the warehouse in Chennevières-sur-Marne. Each day, 180,000 consigned goods are assembled into 2,800 pallets that leave the 26 loading docks.
Operates with 144 trucks
Unlike many supermarkets, Franprix operates its own transports with 144 trucks and employed drivers. “Without direct involvement in transport logistics with our trucks and drivers, we would not be able to obtain the needed quality level,” says Delivery Manager François Ferreira.
While most of Paris is still asleep, driver Carlos Da Silva leaves the Chennevières-sur-Marne centre in the truck marked with “this truck runs on natural gas – a clean and silent solution with low emissions” prominently displayed on the trailer. He insists that there is no difference in handling between a diesel and gas truck. “The only thing you need to keep an eye on is the fuel level. But that’s a small price to pay compared to all the benefits for the planet.”
In addition, several bus companies engaged by the City of Paris in school transport are also adopting alternatives to diesel.
