When it matters most, there’s no margin for error
We’ve partnered with Red Bull UK and our Autonomous Solutions team on a one-of-a-kind project. A feat that’s almost impossible, but only achieved by skill, planning and extreme precision. Professional mountain biker and Red Bull athlete, Matt Jones, has less than one second to jump through two trailers being pulled by moving Scania trucks. And what’s more? There’s no one behind the steering wheels.
The series of films below will immerse you into the challenge. We have all the action, all the tension, and all the build-up. Watch now to see how Matt Jones and Scania took the idea from concept to reality, how the preparations were made, and all the emotions before and after the jump.
"It's not about getting it right. It's about never getting it wrong."
A challenge like this doesn’t happen by luck. What initially started as an idea in Matt Jones' head, then scribbled onto a napkin, evolved over three years and numerous collaborations between Red Bull UK and Scania, and with considerable input from our technology partner for this project, PlusAI.
The site recce in Sweden, and the first glimpse of the scale of the Scania trucks, really gave Matt an impression of the size of the challenge. See how it all came together in our behind-the-scenes film.
"You can't go too high, too low, too left, too right, too fast, too slow."
Absolute precision is a non-negotiable. Anything else results in extreme consequences. This film shows the build-up to the jump from another angle - that of Matt and his twin brother, Jono. As the stakes are raised and the tension heightens, we see how their close relationship is formed by encouragement and belief.
