First of 33 Scania fire appliances delivered to Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue

First of 33 Scania fire appliances delivered to Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue has taken delivery of the first Scania fire appliance in a major order which will see a total of 33 identically-specified vehicles enter service county-wide over the coming three years.  The appliance is also the first Scania fire engine to be taken by Lincolnshire, which is making the transition to the brand following an exhaustive procurement tender process which resulted in the Scania product emerging as the most economically advantageous.

Based on 320 horsepower, 18-tonnes gross vehicle weight Scania P 320 4x2 chassis, the appliances have been specified with Scania's all-steel safety crew cab.  The latest design new generation CP31 CrewCab model selected by Lincolnshire is the largest in the Scania crew cab range and readily accommodates six people plus generous stowage space for breathing apparatus and other safety equipment together with a comfortable spacious interior environment.

"We are delighted with the new Scania P-series," comments Dave Hopkins, Group Manager – Resources for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue. "In particular, the level of safety afforded by the cab, together with its build-quality and enhanced driver-space give us exactly what we were looking for."

"The vehicles will be spread around our retained fire stations throughout Lincolnshire, ensuring that we are able to provide both urban and rural communities with the same high level of service."

For Scania, Specialist Sales Manager – Fire and Airside, David Carter adds: "These appliances represent the latest-generation of fire-fighting vehicles from Scania. Robustly constructed with safety as the top priority, our new P-series model was recently introduced following a comprehensive redesign.  We wish the team at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue every success as they commission their new fleet, and I am confident they will go on to provide the county with many years of excellent service."

The Pumping Appliance superstructure installed on the Scania chassis is designed and manufactured by Yorkshire-based Angloco.  Featuring an 1,800 litre water tank and a 100 litre foam tank, each vehicle is equipped with two power take-offs, one driving the multi-pressure centrifugal main pump, rated up to 3,400 litres per minute at low pressure, the other powering an ultra-high pressure cutting extinguishing (UHPCE) system.  Installed equipment includes two 54 m length 22 mm bore high pressure water hose reels, plus a dedicated reel for the UHPCE system.  Additional equipment includes comprehensive stowage systems making optimum use of the maximised locker space, for a full inventory of four ladders plus a full complement of firefighting and rescue equipment including specialist tools for road traffic collisions.

For Angloco, Managing Director Alistair Brown comments, "We are delighted to be manufacturing these new Scania-based appliances for Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue Service, and all three parties have built a great working relationship together to ensure the finished product is just what was expected.  It’s also great that we are able to showcase our manufacture using these new design Scanias in our new recently-opened additional factory facility".
