  • Designed to significantly improve the support parents across its UK support and service centre network receive
  • Introduction of Neonatal Leave and Pregnancy Loss Leave ahead of statutory law in 2023
  • Big enhancements to Maternity and Adoption Leave, Paternity Leave and Parental Bereavement Leave benefits
  • First major milestone in People and Culture team’s diversity and inclusion programme

Milton Keynes, UK, 19 May 2022: Scania UK has revamped its maternity, paternity and adoption benefits to better support parents within the business.

The new policy is a real statement of intent, with Scania UK showing strong commitment to its diverse workforce by making sure they and their family’s welfare come first.

These include the decision to introduce Neonatal Leave and Pregnancy Loss Leave packages before legislation makes them statutory benefits from 2023.

Neonatal Leave will entitle Scania employees to one-week additional leave with full pay for every week their child is in the neonatal unit. Pregnancy Loss Leave gives parents two weeks leave with full pay.

Scania Family Friendly also sees large improvements to the Maternity and Adoption policies. UK employees will now receive 13 weeks at full pay, 13 weeks at half pay and 13 weeks at Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) during maternity or adoption leave.

Previously, a parent would receive 90% of pay for the first six weeks before getting 33 weeks of SMP.

Paternity Leave and Parental Bereavement Leave have both been enhanced too. Parents will now receive two weeks leave with full pay instead of the current Statutory Paternity Pay.

Clare Booth, Director of People and Culture at Scania UK, says: “This is an exciting step forward for Scania UK and our wider industry. We are pleased to have a more contemporary and supportive set of family-friendly policies, which supports our employees and their families when they really need it.

“At Scania, we are one big family. These enhancements will make sure we can better support all the parents who work for Scania UK, and their families. Which is why we have introduced two benefits now for our valued employees, rather than waiting for law to make them statutory.

“We have a diverse business and this new policy will better encompass the needs of all our Scania family members across our nationwide support and service centre network.”

This is just the first major milestone in Scania UK’s People and Culture team’s work to improve and embrace diversity and inclusion across the business.

The changes outlined by the new Scania Family Friendly policy was implemented at the beginning of April.
