Scania sells 215 buses to Grupo Gontijo in Brazil

Scania has sold 215 buses to the Brazilian-based Grupo Gontijo, the world’s largest Scania bus and coach operator. The order confirms the long-term co-operation between the two companies. The buses will be used by the subsidiaries Gontijo and São Geraldo for scheduled passenger transport all over Brazil.

“Grupo Gontijo begins the renewal of its bus fleet by showing continued confidence in the Scania brand, the result of 30 years of ever-stronger co-operation between the companies. Scania has supplied products that exceed the expectations of both Gontijo and its passengers. We are proud to contribute to the growth and strengthening of the world’s largest Scania fleet operator,” says Wilson Pereira, Executive Sales Manager Buses at Scania Brazil.Scania will deliver 205 K420 6x2 units for long-haul service and 10 F270 4x2 models for shorter-haul intercity applications. This is the first sale of F-series models with that configuration to a Brazilian operator. The long-distance coaches are equipped with Scania’s gearbox with integrated retarder, which boosts braking capacity and reduces wear-and-tear.Currently, more than 70 percent of the two thousand vehicles in Grupo Gontijo’s fleet are from Scania. The most recent major transaction between the companies took place in 2007, when Grupo Gontijo acquired 154 bus chassis from Scania. For further information, please contact - Gunnar Boman, Corporate Relations, tel. +46 8 553 89510, e-post
