Scania Irizar PB voted Coach of the Year 2004
Low fuel consumption, excellent handling and aesthetic design are among the notable qualities which contributed to the nomination of the Scania Irizar PB as winner of the prestigious Coach of the Year 2004 award.
This is the first time that a Scania has been voted Coach of the Year – the busbuilding industry’s most sought-after award. The award is based on the Coach Euro test, in which 14 trade journalists from Europe’s leading bus magazines subject the participating luxury tourist coaches to a rigorous test driving programme.
“The award shows that we, together with our partner, Irizar, have a highly competitive product in the luxury tourist coach segment,” comments Robert Sobocki, Senior Vice President Scania - Sales Buses and Coaches
“Winning the Coach of the Year award is also very inspiring for Scania’s European bus organisation. Following comprehensive reorganisation of the operation in recent years, we are now on the right road in terms of profitability and volume growth,” he adds.
In this year’s test, the Scania Irizar PB took the top award thanks to its low fuel consumption, excellent handling, high standard of comfort and advanced safety philosophy, as well as its aesthetic design.
The vehicle which won the award was a four-star, 12-metre, two-axle version with 44 seats, built on Scania’s K124 EB chassis with independent front suspension and powered by a Scania 420-hp, 12-litre engine.
Scania will receive its award from the Coach of the Year jury at a ceremony to be held at the international Bus World show in Belgium on 17 October.
