From forklift to IT

3 NOVEMBER 2026

Meet our employee Victor Magnusson, who changed career from Material Handling to IT. In September, he has worked for three years as an IT developer at Scania Oskarshamn.

As an IT developer he manages systems and applications and develops new solutions.

- We will create value for those who work in production and make their work easier.

The variety and development make him thrive.

- You can think that you have a good grasp of something and then something new comes along. You never become fully trained and I like that.

After high school, Victor started at Logistics Centre, where he prepared and picked materials for production and later drove a forklift. After about two years, he chose to study computer engineering with a focus on embedded systems. The studies required a change.

- The hardest thing was probably getting back into the study mindset. It took some time. It was freedom with responsibility.

After completing three years of studies, Victor returned to Oskarshamn and worked as an IT consultant. Two years later, Scania's I-Talent Program lured him back to the company in a new role.

- I thought Scania was a cool company that was far ahead and felt that I wanted to try something new.

The I-Talent Program combines work in a specific role with training and insight into Scania for six months. The participants are hired from the start.

- I've always felt that trainee programs are a good way into a company. You get to learn how the company works, build contacts and see what opportunities there are.

The development work often starts with the users. Victor also uses AI tools for troubleshooting and repetitive tasks.

- Previously, you could have to go through many different search results before you found the error. Now, some things can go much faster.

Victor has also represented Scania at university fairs. As a student, he himself appreciated meetings with company representatives.

- I wanted to give it back. It's fun to meet students and explain what you can do here.

Many students sometimes have a narrow image of Scania as a company.

- Many people think that Scania produces trucks. Period. When you tell them that you can work with IT, Logistics and a lot of other things, they are surprised at how many different roles and skills there are here.

Victor's advice to those who are hesitant about studying or changing paths is simple:

- Go for it. I did the right thing to continue studying. Nine times out of ten, most of the things you're worried about work out anyway. You have to dare to believe in yourself.
