A tailored example
This heavy haulage vehicle is an example of what a solution could look like. It is tailored specifically for a customer with a fleet of 20 tractors and additional support and pilot vehicles, looking to invest in two new robust and durable vehicles.
Engine and gearbox. The Scania V8 range, 16-litre engines with up to 730 hp, is the natural choice for heavy haulage applications. The Scania Opticruise gearbox with automatic clutch can handle GTWs up to 250 tonnes in standard mode.
Chassis adaptation. An optimised chassis with a rack behind the cab containing the fuel tank, AdBlue tank and the possibility of adding extra storage boxes as well as a trailer hydraulic system.
Fifth wheel and axle loads. Due to the heavy loads the proposed fifth wheel would be the 3.5” option, fixed-mounted on the heavy duty slider. A 26 tonne air suspended bogie for the rear axle, and air suspended pusher and front axle with a 9 tonne load capacity.
Bumper and push coupling. With the need for push coupling the STONE sturdy one-piece steel bumper with underrun protection is an excellent choice. The robustness of our XT range will serve this heavy hauler well.
Services. Investing in a tailored drivers training programme could help our customer reduce both maintenance needs and fuel consumption. As would Scania Fleet Management Services, giving our customer valuable insight in their operation and what can be done to improve it.
