Production Oskarshamn

Yahya wants to inspire other employees

5 DECEMBER 2023

When Yahya came to Sweden in 2005, he had nothing. The job at Scania Oskarshamn was very important to him and he has always felt proud of his work.

He is bursting with enthusiasm when he talks about the opportunities Scania offers its employees. Yahya himself is a shining example of how new paths can be taken.

- I've always had a desire to develop and go far, says Yahya Ghalyoun, who today works as a production technician in Assembly & Internal Logistics.

But when Yahya started at Scania Oskarshamn 18 years ago as a 22-year-old, he couldn't even dream of the development journey he was embarking on.

- I didn't think this was possible, but it's important to believe in yourself. You need to show commitment, be patient, and not give up. I love what I do and enjoy my work very much. With my journey, I want to inspire others and show that it is possible to develop within the company if you want to. If you don't have the education required, my advice is to educate yourself to succeed, says Yahya.

Always felt safe
Yahya started his journey at Scania in the Assembly workshop, first on Line 5, followed by Line 4 where he worked for 10 years.

- In the beginning, language and communication were a big challenge, but I have always felt secure in my job. I was a flex assembler, which meant that I was occasionally loaned out to other assembly lines to support the staffing when needed. This meant that I had time to work on all the lines for three years.

Studied to become a production technician
Yahya is happy to take on new challenges and wants to drive improvement work. When the new cab program, NTG, was to be launched, he was involved in a development project.

- We worked to prepare for the double run when the new cab was to be manufactured in parallel with the old one. It was about ensuring quality and producing in the best possible way.

After working with development work at Line 5 for 1,5 years, his journey took a new path.

- During the pandemic, I studied to become a production technician and finished my education in 2020. I did my internship and my degree project at the Technology Department at Scania Oskarshamn.

After that, Yahya would try working in the Technology Department for six months and then go back to production. But his boss saw that Yahya was a driven person and offered him the position of becoming a production technician.

- It was fantastic and gave me the opportunity to take responsibility for a line and make decisions about improvements in close collaboration with the Group Manager and Teamleader. We managed to implement a number of improvements in a relatively short period of time.

In his role as a production engineer, Yahya feels that he has benefited greatly from having worked in production for many years. Now he is working on development work on IB-Line (Dashboard) and Line 6.

- It's important that we encourage each other and take advantage of each other's knowledge to constantly develop, Yahya concludes.
