Scania R-series and P-series achieved five-star Euro NCAP safety ratings; the standard got higher in malaysia
Scania’s R-series and P-series have achieved the highest possible five-star rating in the European consumer testing organisation Euro NCAP’s Safer Trucks programme, reinforcing Scania’s continued focus on safety across different transport operations. In Malaysia, Scania continues to make the standard higher – Advanced Emergency Braking for vehicles (AEB), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Electronic Braking System (EBS) with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Traction Control now comes standard on top of an already technological advanced safety specifications to support drivers and improve safety for other road users.
“The five-star ratings for the R-, P- and L-series reinforce the approach we have taken in Singapore. Safety should go beyond meeting regulatory requirements, which is why we continue to offer our customers advanced safety features that can be included in their vehicles according to their operational needs. This results in greater protection for drivers and other road users, higher uptime and productivity, and at the same time creates a better and more stress-free daily working environment. Ultimately, safer trucks contribute to safer roads and a better transport system,” says Johan Clason, Presales & Logistics Director, Scania Southeast Asia.
The Scania R-series was awarded five stars in Euro NCAP’s haulage assessment, covering the R-series 4x2 tractor and R-series 6x2 rigid. The R-series also received Euro NCAP’s CitySafe award.
The five-star result was achieved through strong performance in Safe Driving and Collision Avoidance. The tested R-series were equipped with SSCC (Speed Sign Cruise Control) and CSCC (Curve Speed Cruise Control), adding safety in the driver support systems, especially in combination with SSA (Safe Stop Assist). The AEB (Advanced Emergency Braking) and the VRUBS (Vulnerable Road User Brake System) strongly contribute to the score of 96 percent for the trucks in Crash Avoidance. Optional camera monitor systems were included that improve front corner vision and reduce driver workload.
“Safety in long-haulage starts with supporting the driver. Visibility, comfort, driver assistance, and vehicle control all contribute to safer operations,” says Lars Gustafsson, Head of Trucks, Scania.
The Scania P-series has also achieved five stars, with both the 4x2 distribution and 6x2 utility receiving the highest possible rating. The P-series also scored the highest mark in Euro NCAP’s CitySafe for heavy vehicles with features designed to prevent accidents in urban environments.
With the low cab position and the corner-eye camera in place, the P-cab gives the driver high visibility of vulnerable road users. The recently updated crash avoidance systems achieved an overall score of 93 percent, which reinforces the high performance and reliability of Scania’s active safety technology. The systems that address frontal collision mitigation, lane departure prevention, and Vulnerable Road User Brake Side (VRUBS) scenarios (protecting cyclists during side-turn manoeuvres) delivered excellent results, with VRUBS achieving a perfect 100 percent score.
“To see that our P-cab received the same high rating shows that safety is something we put our pride in. It is also proof that we deliver on the increasingly high expectations from cities, customers, transport buyers and road users, in line with our values,” says Lars.
The five-star results demonstrate Scania’s continued commitment to improving safety across different transport applications. In Singapore, Scania remains committed to offering customers advanced safety features suited to their operations, while providing Total Solutions that improve fuel and energy efficiency, enhance operational efficiency and support their profitability. These efforts reinforce Scania’s commitment to leading the shift towards a sustainable transport system, delivering safer, more efficient and sustainable transport solutions for its customers.

The Scania P-series has also achieved five stars, with both the 4x2 distribution and 6x2 utility receiving the highest possible rating. The P-series also scored the highest mark in Euro NCAP’s CitySafe for heavy vehicles with features designed to prevent accidents in urban environments.
