The Young European Truck Driver 2012 final
On Saturday 8 September 2012, Europe’s best young truck driver was crowned. The winner Gabriel Warde from Ireland, drove home a brand new Scania R-series truck, valued at 100,000 euro.
Gabriel Warde wins Scania’s Young Truck Driver Competition
Gabriel Warde from Ireland won the exciting final of Scania’s Young European Truck Driver 2012 competition.
More than 17,000 contestants have entered this year’s European competition. Following months of regional and national qualification competitions, 24 finalists will compete against each other at Scania in Södertälje, Sweden.
Driver skills put to the test
The road to the European final of the world’s largest truck driving competition is long and hard. Driving, fuel economy, safety and maneuvering – those competing for the title as Europe’s best truck driver must master all aspects of the competition.
Young European Truck Driver is a part of Scania Driver Competitions. They
highlight the importance of the drivers’ skills, as well as driver training and
enhance road safety awareness and proficient eco-driving.
Following the qualification round, 18 of the original 24 drivers will remain. In the final round, contestants will compete in three challenges: Combo, Knock the King and Super Z.
YETD rewards accuracy and good judgment above speed. The driver who makes the fewest mistakes wins. However, being efficient is important, since working against the clock is part of a skilled driver’s daily reality.
