Scania secures order for 150 buses

Scania leads the market in Egypt

Scania has received an order for a total of 150 buses from Egypt and Dubai. The buyer in Egypt is Scania importer Ghabbour Egypt, which has placed orders for 120 buses during the first quarter of this year, while in Dubai, city bus operator Dubai Municipality has signed an order for 30 buses.

"This order confirms that we are the leading make of luxury coaches in Egypt and it further reinforces our already strong position in the country," says Lars T. Andersson, regional manager for Scania sales in North Africa.

The order from Dubai represents a vital breakthrough on what is an entirely new bus market for Scania.

The Egyptian contract is the fourth major order from Ghabbour in just two years. During this period, the company has purchased more than 800 buses, making Egypt one of Scania's largest bus markets after Brazil.

Over the years, more than 1800 Scania buses have been delivered to the Egyptian market.

Ghabbour Egypt will equip the bus chassis with bodies for intercity and tourist operations. Most of the buses will be delivered during 1999, and they will be built at the Scania factory in Katrineholm.

The order for 30 buses from Dubai came at the same time as the Egyptian order. They feature the new Scania city and intercity L94 bus chassis and they too will have bodies built in Egypt by Ghabbour. The buses will enter into operations in Dubai's expanding city-bus network.
