Proposed changes to the Board of Scania;

Two new members have been proposed for election to the Board of Scania at the Annual General Meeting on 28 April 1999. The two new proposed Board members are Cees J. A. van Lede and Björn Svedberg. They have been proposed by shareholders who together represent more than 50 per cent of the voting rights in the company.

Regular members Anders Scharp, Peggy Bruzelius, Clas Åke Hedström, Mauritz Sahlin, Rolf Stomberg, Marcus Wallenberg and Leif Östling have been proposed for re-election. Claes von Post is resigning from the board.

Regular auditors Caj Nackstad and Gunnar Widhagen and deputy auditors Tomas Thiel and Björn Fernström have also been proposed for re-election.

Cees J. A. van Lede was born in 1942. He has held the position of President and CEO and Chairman of the Board of Akzo Nobel N.V. since 1994. Between 1991 and 1994, he was a member of the Board of UNICE (the Union of Industrial and 

Employer’s Confederations of Europe). From 1984 to 1991, he was Chairman of the Federation of Netherlands Industries.

 

Björn Svedberg was born in 1937. He is currently a member of the boards of Gambro, Investor, Saab and Saga Petroleum. He is also Chairman of the Board of the Chalmers University of Technology, President of the Royal Swedish Academy of the Engineering Sciences, a member of the Morgan Stanley European Advisory Board and a member of the Council of Det Norske Veritas. 

From 1992 to 1997, Björn Svedberg served as President and CEO of SE-Banken. He was President and CEO of the telecom company Ericsson between 1977 and 1990, when he was appointed Chairman of the Board, a position he held until 1998.Scania's press release and photographs of Cees J.
