Scania focuses on South East Europe
"Slovenia and the other nations of the former Yugoslavia are part of a growth market in which we expect the demand for trucks to double within the next five years. To prepare for this, we are now expanding and reinforcing our sales and service network in the region. In the longer term, we aim to achieve the same market position as in the rest of Europe."
So said Urban Erdtman, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing Europe, when he inaugurated Scania's import office in Ljubljana, Slovenia today.
Scania has a long tradition in the region; it sold its first vehicles to Yugoslavia in 1969. During the 1990s, the company has successively established representative offices, dealerships and service workshops in all of the countries of the former Yugoslavia.
In Slovenia, Scania has established a wholly-owned subsidiary, Scania Tovorna Vozila d.o.o, with a sales and service facility in Ljubljana. Service workshops have also been opened in Ptuj and Koper.
"Slovenia is a market which is fully comparable to the rest of western Europe in terms of its transport industry and infrastructure. The country also plays a key role in transit traffic in the region. There is a market here for a truckmaker with a well-developed sales and service organisation. And it is precisely to meet these demands that Scania has launched its own subsidiary here," explains Kjell Örtengren, MD of Scania Tovorna Vozila d.o.o.
