Scania acquires Swiss importer
Scania has signed an agreement on acquistion of the privately-owned Scania importer in Switzerland, Truck AG. The acquisition is expected to be finalised by 31 May. The current owners of Truck AG expressed an interest in selling the importership to Scania before handing over to a new generation of owners, which fits the Scania strategy of direct involvment in important European markets.
Truck AG has been Switzerland's Scania importer since 1957, operating from its head office in Kloten outside Zurich. Its operations cover 4 branches and 3 wholly-owned dealerships, in addition to 10 independent dealerships. In 1996, the company had a turnover of just over 700 million SEK, with a payroll of 225 employees. All the staff are being offered continued employment in the new company.
2,479 heavy trucks were registered in Switzerland last year. Scania had a market share of 17.4 per cent, with 431 registrations.
