Watch a Scania electric tipper truck in action at a Swedish mine
Scania vehicle is an industry first for mining, and is being tested in daily operations at LKAB’s Malmberget iron ore seam.
Since late 2022, Scania has been testing an electric heavy tipper truck at Swedish mining giant’s LKAB’s Malmberget iron ore mine in northern Sweden.
The Scania 25P XT all-electric tipper is being used to carry residual products from the Malmberget mine and has a weight when fully loaded of 49 tonnes.
The tests see the electric truck being used in all the tough underground operating conditions that are a daily fact of life at the mine.
Scania electric truck is industry first for mining
The Scania electric heavy tipper is a first for the mining industry, and builds upon the relationship between LKAB and Scania.
Like Scania, LKAB is committed to becoming a sustainable company, targeting a safe, productive and decarbonised iron and steel industry, as part of its efforts to be one of the most sustainable mining companies in the world.
Daily transport is one of LKAB’s key sustainability focus areas, and Scania is well placed to help.
