The components that hold the truck together
Crossmembers and other frame components are an important part of Scania Luleå’s core operations. The products contribute to the strength, stability and flexibility of the chassis, making them central to the truck’s construction.
The crossmembers are positioned between the side members in the chassis. Depending on the length of the chassis, three or four crossmembers are usually mounted, with an average of approximately 3.8 crossmembers per chassis.
For Scania’s battery electric trucks, BEV, the crossmembers are made from extra high-strength steel with a strength of 500 MPa. This enables them to meet the increased demands caused by the weight of the batteries, while also contributing to a robust and durable vehicle construction.
The crossmembers are manufactured in a single piece, rather than consisting of several components that need to be assembled. This reduces weight and production costs, while also helping to optimize the flexibility of the frame.
