Top Team: The Power of Team Spirit

13 JUNE 2025

From starting his journey at Scania Tanzania as a Workshop Foreman to today leading a team of more than 20 technicians as the Workshop Manager, Kongo Mzinga’s story is an inspiring one.

Kongo was one of the participants during the Scania Top Team 2022-2023 competition where he represented Tanzania as the team leader, which resulted in their victory during the East Africa National, and his team was able to represent East Africa during the Regional Final in Bangkok.

“Participating in the National and Regional Final was the best feeling because it was my first time participating in the competition which gave me first hand experience in witnessing Scania’s dedication to technical excellence, teamwork, and having effective customer service in our various markets.”

As a training programme for the services team, Kongo’s experience as a participant gave him exposure and enhanced his technical and leadership skills which has impacted his personal development and contribution to the company in a positive way.

“The competition taught me just how powerful teamwork can be. It also opened my eyes that being knowledgeable and continuous learning regarding service tools and processes can boost team performance. But most importantly, it gave me more confidence in my own abilities.”

Kongo will be participating in Top Team 2025-2026 as a Team Coach for the Scania Tanzania team, not as an active participant, but as their mentor.

“My advice to all the participants is to keep it simple and to enjoy the experience. The competition focus on technical issues and difficult repairs which we encounter and are familiar with. So stay calm because brilliance lies in simplicity.”
