Abigael Kutto Inspires Young Women to take the Leap into the Automotive Industry

27 MARCH 2024

At just 24 years, Abigael Kutto has boldly found her space as a technician at Scania East Africa’s Nairobi workshop, and in celebrating women at Scania, we honour and celebrate her journey as a woman in the automotive industry.

Abigael joined the company in August 2022 as an apprentice, undergoing a one year rigorous program of learning and applying her automotive engineering skills, which she successfully completed and transitioned to a technician.

At Scania, she specializes in installing electrical systems, retrofitting, troubleshooting and maintenance of trucks and buses. “When a customer brings in their vehicle with a technical problem, and I fix it, and I see the vehicle leaving the workshop and going back to business, this is the rewarding part of my job,’ Abigael highlights.

Diversity and inclusion is a strategic necessity for Scania by having an inclusive culture which is able to drive the business forward, and young women like Abigael are paving the way for more and more women to take the leap into the automotive industry. “I enjoy working at Scania because the culture harnesses your potential, and the company has provided me with an opportunity to excel and develop my skills, and I look forward to taking on more challenging projects at the company and being able to train and mentor other technicians” she explains.

As a woman in a technical field, Abigael hopes to see young women applying for technical courses and joining the industry. “To encourage more women to get into technical fields, we need to sensitize them on the available opportunities, and my advise to aspiring female technicians is to go for it!” she encourages.
