100th Truck for Lane Transport is a Special Scania

One of the first Scania extended cab R-series has been delivered to Noel Lane of Lane Transport, based in Killarney, western Victoria. The truck is powered by a 660 hp V8 engine and finished in a striking shade of Scania Blue Sapphire metallic and boasts bold V8 decals.

The truck is the pride of the fleet, named after Noel’s grand-daughter Jayla Rose and is the 100th vehicle the company has acquired.

With 35 active vehicles traversing Australia currently, carting packaged general freight mostly in B-double configuration, the new Scania joins the mixed fleet and will run Melbourne-Adelaide-Millicent five times per fortnight, clocking up around 200,000 km annually.

The larger cab will provide the driver with a spacious, luxurious and comfortable environment in which to live while on the road, benefiting from a high ceiling and an addition 270mm in cab length compared with the standard R-series.

Like all Scanias, Noel’s new truck comes standard with side curtain rollover protection airbags for the driver and passenger, a steering wheel airbag, advanced emergency braking, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.

Noel has added contrasting silver and gold scrollwork to really stand out on the blue duco as well as having the tanks colour-coded and edged with chrome strips and running lights.

“Our drivers love the Scanias we have on the fleet already, including a 650 hp V8 Anniversary model, because they are good to drive, return impressive fuel numbers and offer comfort and safety,” Noel Lane says.

“Scania and its authorised independent dealers provide us with efficient service, scheduling maintenance for us, and we get good residual values. Additionally, the Scania Driver Training supports our drivers to get the best out of the truck. When we have used the Scania maintenance programme it worked well and we got the truck back on the road very quickly.

“There will be more Scanias coming over the next few years,” Noel says.

“Being able to supply Noel with his milestone 100th truck, and to deliver him a big cab R-series V8 660 hp version was a real pleasure,” says Craig Shipcott, Scania Victoria New Truck Account Manager.

“After we handed over the truck, Noel jumped behind the wheel and took it up to Brisbane with its first load. The truck will take the work with Lane Transport in its stride, providing safety and economy which will keep Noel happy, as well as an unmatched driving experience which will keep the driver happy,” Craig says.
