Driver evaluation

Driver evaluation

Part of My Scania

Besides traffic safety and the wear and tear of the vehicle, driver behaviour influences as much as 15% of the fuel consumption –  affecting both fuel costs and CO2 emissions for internal combustion vehicles (ICE). The Driver Evaluation service fairly and objectively analyses the driver’s performance and provides a clear grade from A to E, as well as tips on what and how to improve.

Quick facts

  • Reduction in fuel consumption – lowered fuel costs and CO2 emissions.
  • Reduced vehicle wear and tear – less time in the workshop and a positive effect on productivity.
  • Safer driving behaviour – decreased risk for accidents.
  • Scania Communicator and vehicle connectivity required.
  • Requires driver card inserted in the Tachograph or a personal ID button connected.
  • The service is available as part of the Control Package or standalone.

How Driver Evaluation works

With this service, each participating driver is compared using the Scania unique Performance Evaluation Model (PEM) which factors in the specification of the vehicle, the market and the type of operation the driver is performing.

The driver data is graded in comparison with anonymised driving behaviour data from the entire connected global rolling Scania fleet

– all to provide a result which is as accurate and objective as possible, and which only grades on factors that the driver can actively influence.

Besides the overall grade, individual grades are also provided for; anticipation, idling, hill driving, coasting, driving with cruise control and speeding. With a sortable ranking list, and the option to specify time periods you can clearly see driver trends, and as easily identify the drivers with the greatest potential for improvement, as well as following up on their development over time.

The driver grades are shown for each individual driver in the Scania Driver app, and the full fleet overview is clearly reported in the My Scania platform.

The Scania Driver app gives you a detailed view of the driving performance.

The overall grade

The final grade is determined by averaging the contributing factors. Each trip is individually graded, and then an overall average is computed using the contributing factors. The grade is determined solely by the factors with available data for the given period. For instance, if a driver hasn't idled at all during the period, the idling parameter is omitted from the calculation.

ICE truck parameters:

  • Speeding
  • Idling
  • Powertrain coasting
  • Hill driving
  • Anticipation
  • Driving with cruise control

New Energy for your driving

With electric operation, maximising the available range per charge is a key factor for vehicle utilisation and the total operating economy. As such, it can be the differentiator between the right and wrong side of your margins. With driver behaviour affecting not only energy consumption by up to 20%, but also both traffic safety and vehicle wear and tear, this means that driving consciously, smoothly and efficiently has never been more important.

Driver Evaluation for electric vehicles ensures that every analysis, tip and driver comparison is specifically taking electric operation into account. Providing drivers with the tools and knowledge to minimise energy consumption and optimise vehicle range right there in the Scania Driver app – means spending more time on the road, and less time at the charging station.  Our advanced evaluation model is built on huge amounts of real-life driving data, with a large variation of operational circumstances and vehicle specifications. This allows each participating driver to be compared fairly and objectively with others.

With a sortable ranking list in the My Scania platform, and the option to specify time periods you can see driver trends, and identify the drivers with the greatest potential for improvement, as well as follow up on their development over time.

Quick facts

  • Up to 20% reduction in energy consumption – increased range and vehicle utilisation potential.
  • Reduced vehicle wear and tear – less time in the workshop and a positive effect on productivity.
  • Safer driving behaviour – decreased risk for accidents.
  • Easy access through My Scania and the Scania Driver app.
  • Requires driver card inserted in the Tachograph or a personal ID button connected.
  • The service is available both standalone and as part of the Battery Electric Vehicle Control Package.

The overall grade

The driver is graded on a scale from A to E, solely on factors that they can actively influence such as speeding, harsh braking and harsh acceleration. And with Battery Electric Vehicle-specific scores being distinctly separate for drivers that switch vehicle types regularly.

Driver data

The driver data page gives you access to data in order to perform a more detailed analysis of how different drivers have been driving during a selected period.

  • Type of propulsion
  • Brake application (#/100 km)
  • Distance driven (km)
  • Harsh brake applications (#/100 km)
  • Energy consumption (kWh)
  • Harsh accelerations (#/100 km)
  • Transport work, average (tonne-km/kWh)
  • Speeding (% of running time)
  • Average energy consumption (km/kWh)
  • Scania Driver Support (Average score in %)
