Kverneland Energi partners with Scania Industrial Batteries to revolutionize mobile energy storage for electric construction machinery
19 SEPTEMBER 2025
As Norway continues to lead in electrification across its economy, the demand for battery-powered solutions has surged — particularly in sectors like construction, where electric vehicles and equipment are fast becoming the standard. However, one major challenge remains: delivering high-power charging to remote sites that lack direct access to robust grid connections.
Addressing this need, Kverneland Energi has introduced Thor, an innovative mobile charging station mounted on a trailer and powered by three Core 800 battery systems. Thor provides fast, efficient charging for electric construction machines at up to 360 kW, even in locations with limited or no grid access. When connected to a local grid, the system can recharge its batteries during machine operations, ensuring an uninterrupted energy supply to keep work on schedule.

Core: Power, Flexibility, and Connectivity
When asked why Kverneland Energi decided to partner with Scania Industrial Batteries, CTO Jonas Kverneland told us: “When developing our Mobile Fast Charger Thor, we sought a battery solution that was not only durable and transportable, but also aligned with our sustainability goals.”
“The Core 800 has proven to be the ideal choice. Its exceptional performance, ease of use, and durability in challenging conditions demonstrate Scania Industrial Batteries’ commitment to providing sustainable and reliable battery solutions.”
In addition, the modularity of the Core allows multiple packs to be connected in parallel, without the need for additional external hardware. This feature not only simplifies design but also helps keep the overall weight within limits, crucial for mobile trailers that need to maintain operational flexibility.
Connectivity is a key element of the Thor solution, ensuring real-time monitoring and optimization of energy usage across construction sites. Kverneland Energi is actively working with customers to ensure the Thor system integrates smoothly into their existing operational frameworks, enabling more efficient energy management through advanced data insights and diagnostics. Scania Industrial Batteries native investment in battery digitalization and connectivity of battery systems, with their Connected Battery, made the partnership a perfect fit.
While Kverneland Energi’s current focus remains on the Norwegian market, where all Thor units have been sold to date, the flexibility of the Core opens up future possibilities. The scalable nature of Scania Industrial Batteries’ products means it can easily be adapted to suit other Kverneland products as the company explores further applications in mobile energy storage.
A partnership built on innovation
This collaboration between Kverneland Energi and Scania Industrial Batteries represents a key milestone in the development of cutting-edge energy storage solutions for Norway’s rapidly evolving industrial sector. With sustainability, efficiency, and innovation at its core, this partnership is set to drive further advancements in the electrification of heavy-duty industries, empowering companies to meet their operational and environmental goals.
