FIVE LOCAL SERVICE TECHNICIANS TO REPRESENT SINGAPORE IN PRESTIGIOUS GLOBAL COMPETITION

SCANIA SINGAPORE TEAM PREPARES TO TAKE ON THE WORLD’S BEST TEAMS AT THE SCANIA TOP TEAM COMPETITION

SINGAPORE, MARCH 30th, 2015 – A team of five enthusiastic and highly skilled local service technicians emerged winners at the Scania Singapore Top Team Competition 2014-2015 on Saturday, to become the team to represent Scania Singapore at the regional competition in Guangzhou, China and later the global competition in Sodertalje, Sweden later this year.

The winning team successfully demonstrated a high level of technical competency and teamwork on five competition challenges – Theory, Brake, Electrical, Suspension and Fuel – in the service and maintenance of heavy buses and trucks.

“To provide the best service to customers, our service teams have to be highly versatile in problem solving and skilled in a range of power tools and computerised diagnostic equipment to ensure maximum uptime over the complete life of a vehicle,” said Mr Mark Cameron, Regional Director for South Malaysia & Singapore and Country Manager for Singapore. “Our winning team this year impressed the judges with its technical competency and teamwork to solve difficult problems, which simulate realistic customer service scenarios.”

He added, “As the reliability, durability and economy of heavy buses and trucks directly impact our customers’ bottom line, the Scania Top Team Competition complements our training and development regime to motivate our service personnel to provide more competent and effective services, which subsequently benefits our customers.”

The winning team, named Kinetic, comprising Alvin Tan Tze Khong, Lim Wei Soon, Chua Chin Heng, Seetha Nadarajah and Mohd Rozaimi; will represent Singapore at the regional finals in Guangzhou, China in September 2015. The top two winners of Asia Pacific will go on to participate in the grand finals against other global teams in the Scania Top Team Competition to be held in Sodertalje, Sweden in December, 2015.

“We took part in the last competition and were looking forward to this new round. We prepared really hard for it but it all boiled down to great teamwork and delivering high service levels consistently in our everyday job – not just during the competition,” said Alvin Tan, team leader for Kinetic.

Prior to the finals held on Saturday at the Scania Singapore workshop in Senoko, participating teams drawn from all services personnel in Singapore had to undergo a written test in order to qualify as finalists. From there, three teams were shortlisted to participate in the final round of the competition.

The bi-annual Top Team Competition aims to motivate and improve service personnels’ competency levels, which will in turn benefit our customers.
