ECONOMY MODE PRE-SET AS DEFAULT FOR ALL NEW SCANIA TRUCKS AND COACHES FROM 2021, IN LINE WITH SBTI AND HELPING CUSTOMERS IMPROVE PROFITABILITY

1 OCTOBER 2021

SINGAPORE – The Economy Mode (Eco Mode) is now a pre-set default for all new Scania trucks and coaches with Opticruise starting from 2021. This move ensures that customers enjoy the best fuel economy and CO2 emission reductions, in line with Scania’s science-based targets under the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi).

Scania customers with trucks or coaches purchased before 2021 can still set the Eco Mode as default on their vehicles at any Scania workshop in Singapore. Labour charges for the change in default setting will be complimentary until 31 December 2022.

“We are ensuring our customers enjoy the most fuel-efficient drive possible, by setting Eco Mode as the default in their vehicles,” said Anders Liss, Country Manager of Scania Singapore. “With greater fuel savings, they can achieve better operating economy and profitability while contributing to a more sustainable future for their businesses and our planet.”

As the default setting, the Eco Mode will kick in each time a vehicle is switched on regardless of the last mode it was switched off with. Drivers can still switch from Eco Mode to other performance modes to address different driving conditions.

Customers may also opt-out of the Eco Mode default setting by informing their Scania sales representatives before the delivery of the vehicles, or their workshop service advisors after the delivery of the vehicles. Labour charges are applicable.

The Eco Mode is one of Scania’s many initiatives to achieve its science-based targets by 2025, which aim to reduce the carbon footprint for Scania’s operations by 50% and for its customers trucks and coaches by 20%. These targets are in line with Scania’s commitment at the Paris Agreement 2015, to limit global warming to well-below 2°C above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5°C.

The Opticruise Gearbox Control is an automated gear changing system, proven to reduce fuel consumption and improve driver comfort, saving the need to watch revs and change gears. The Eco Mode is now a pre-set default for all new Scania trucks and coaches with Opticruise starting from 2021.

The Eco Mode, prominently displayed on the dashboard, is tuned to consume as little fuel as possible with minimum trip time loss.

The Eco Mode ensures the best fuel economy and CO2 emission reductions by automatically adapting the cruising speed to various gradients of the road.
